The Highland project completely modernized the vacant and outdated 1960s-era JCPenny department store at Highland Mall into a place where this city’s future leaders – its students – can flourish. The design and complex renovation was based on a submission for LEED Silver certification – however, the project is on track to get the gold. 
Austin Community College’s Highland project completely modernized the vacant and outdated 1960s-era JCPenny department store at Highland Mall into a place where this city’s future leaders – its students – can flourish. The design and complex renovation was based on a submission for LEED Silver certification – however, the project is on track to get the gold. The concrete building got a complete makeover and is now a visually pleasing, updated facility that will serve the college and the Austin community for decades to come. The lead developer was RedLeaf Properties, general contractor was Flintco, architect was Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects, landscape architect was Coleman & Associates, interior designer was handled by Laukgroup, the civil engineers were Bury, Martinez Wright Mendez and the structural engineer was Datum Engineers.
